Bulldogs edge Stayton

STAYTON — Jesse Brown hit Trace Richardson with a 14-yard touchdown pass with 1:59 left in the game Saturday to send Baker to a 23-16 victory over Stayton in the second round of the Class 4A state football playoffs.

Brown was attempting to find Ty Everson on the play. But, under pressure, the Baker quarterback scrambled out of trouble while Richardson broke free in the end zone.

The Bulldogs then had to hold on to keep Stayton from rallying to tie or win the game in the final seconds. Colton Richards intercepted Sawyer Clark's pass in the end zone with 27 seconds left to seal the win.

Baker hosts third-ranked Astoria in the 4A quarterfinals next weekend. The game is tentativey set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Bulldog Memorial Stadium.
