Bulldogs roll past Heppner

Baker coasted by Heppner Tuesday in its final boys basketball tuneup before entering Greater Oregon League play this weekend.

The Bulldogs (5-3) rolled to a 71-47 non-league win at Hermiston High School.

“Heppner is a good 2A team,” said Baker coach Craig Woods.

“We’d get up by 10 to 14 points and then they’d make a run at us. It was a good little tuneup for us. We could still see some little things we need to work on before Friday.”

The Bulldogs open GOL play Friday by hosting Ontario at BHS.

“Heppner is a pretty scrappy little team,” Woods said. “We missed some easy shots early. But, overall it was a solid team effort.”

Baker led 47-39 entering the fourth quarter, then outscored Heppner 24-8 the rest of the way.

Derek Blankenship led the Bulldogs with 26 points. Dekker Smith added 14 and Jesse Brown 12.

Baker also won the junior varsity game 64-21. Isaac Mansuetti led Baker with 16 points.
