Bulldogs rout Mac-Hi

Baker dominated Mac-Hi from start to finish Saturday on the way to a 71-36 win in Greater Oregon League boys basketball play at Milton-Freewater.

The Bulldogs spotted Mac-Hi a 2-0 lead to start the game, then rolled off 12 unanswered points. Baker never looked back after that.

“The kids played hard,” said Baker coach Craig Woods. “Everybody was clocking. They all played well.”

Derek Blankenship, who missed the previous La Grande game due to other commitments, scored five of his game-high 18 points in the 12-0 run.

Taylor McEnroe, who got the start because Dekker Smith missed Saturday due to other commitments, added four of his eight points in the spurt.

“With Dekker gone, Taylor got the start and did a good job,” Woods said.

Blankenship and McEnroe combined for 14 first-quarter points to lead the Bulldogs to a 22-4 advantage at the break.

Trace Richardson and Jesse Brown each tallied four points in the second period as Baker led 32-14 at halftime.

B.J. Quintana then joined Blankenship carrying the scoring load in the third period. Quintana scored eight of his season-high 16 points in the quarter. Blankenship added five points as Baker built its lead to 53-28.

Woods cleared his bench in the fourth quarter as seven different Bulldogs hit the scoring column.

“We tried to run some sets we haven’t run before; to work on some things,” Woods said. “And, we got the JV kids some good minutes.”

Four Bulldogs finished in double figures led by Blankenship’s 18 points. Quintana added 16, Richardson 10 and Brown 10.

Baker (2-1 in the GOL) will be busy this week with three games. The Bulldogs travel to Ontario Tuesday, host La Grande Friday, then host Weiser, Idaho, in a non-league game Saturday.
