Burnt River ends regular season

UNITY — The Burnt River girls split and the boys lost a pair of games last weekend in the final regular-season games of the High Desert League season.

Burnt River traveled to Adrian Friday. The girls had trouble from the start. The Antelopes’ press often kept Burnt River from getting the ball down the court and held the Lady Bulls to just two points in the first quarter.

With the preasure called off in the second half, Burnt River was able to get back into the game. Final score was 56-32 Adrian.

The Burnt River boys kept the game close for the first half, down by only four at halftime, but foul trouble and inability to score in the third quarter allowed the Antelope to pull away and win 63-36. Caleb Andrews and Harry Szu-Yao Su led the Bulls with 15 points each.

Saturday Jordan Valley traveled to Unity for the final game of the  season. The Burnt River girls had an easy time beating the Mustangs 57-21. Ellie Delong, Whitni Anderson and Celina Kezerle led the scoring.

The Burnt River boys again had trouble handling the size and speed of the Mustangs. They played hard but ended up losing 66-41.

Saturday was the last game for Burnt River senior athletes at their home court. The seniors and their parents were honored before the games.

Kristy Riggin and her mother Karen Riggin, Ellie Delong and her parents Jim and Janet Delong, Caleb Andrews and his parents Corey and Shauna Andrews, Justus Wise and his parents Wayne and Cookie Wise and exchange students Cem Erdogdu, Jovan Radakivic and Harry Szu-Yao Su and dorm parents Roger and Darla Derrick.

The district playoffs start Wednesday in John Day.
