Cousins meet in Class 4A semifinal

Two Richardsons will make the program during Saturday’s football game — one for Baker and one for Phoenix. Trace, a senior, plays receiver for Baker. Dalton, a sophomore, plays right guard and defensive tackle for Phoenix. They’re cousins, but this meeting in the semi-final round of the 4A football playoffs is more family reunion than rivalry.“We thought it’d be funny if we ever played each other,” said Joel Richardson, Trace’s dad. His brother, Chris, is a teacher for the Phoenix School District. Living at opposite ends of the state means the families don’t get together very often. “It’ll be great to see them. I’m really looking forward to it,” Richardson said. And the Richardson family will have reason to celebrate regardless of which team scores the most points. “No matter what happens, one of our boys is going to play in a state game,” Richardson said. As for the loyalties ... “I’m sure it’ll be a lot harder on the grandparents,” Richardson said. |
