Cove, Imbler win district boys openers

Imbler and Cove advanced to the District 7-1A boys basketball semifinals with first-round wins Thursday at Baker High School.

Imbler defeated Joseph 59-26, and Cove topped Pine-Eagle 73-27. Imbler plays Powder Valley today at 2:15 p.m. Cove meets Wallowa at 8:15 p.m.


Imbler rolls past Joseph

Bryan Mills scored eight of his 16 points in the first quarter to help Imbler take a commanding 15-4 lead.

The Panthers finished the first period on a 10-0 run, including five by Mills.

Imbler added scoring runs of eight points and seven points in the second quarter on the way to a 30-8 halftime edge.

The Panthers shot 48 percent from the field in the opening half, while holding Joseph to 13 percent..

Imbler continued to add to its margin in the second half.

Mills finished with 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals in 25 minutes of action.

Dalton McDaniel added 11 rebounds as the Panthers won the battle of the boards 40-24.

Trent Martin led Joseph with eight points.

Cove routs Spartans

Cove stormed to a 30-9 lead after one quarter and never looked back against Pine-Eagle.

The Leopards scored the first 10 points of the game.

Jered Witty led Cove with 18 points. Jordan Brown added 10.

Jake Traw and Alex Stiles each scored eight points to lead Pine-Eagle.

Cove outrebounded the Spartans 47-26.
