A tired Team Rudi Diamondbacks American Legion baseball team finished fourth at the Walla Walla tournament Sunday. The Diamondbacks split six games in four days. Team Rudi opened tournament play by defeating the Northwest Crush from Seattle 3-0. The Diamondbacks then defeated Pasco 14-1, and Cour d’Alene 14-5. Team Rudi then lost 4-3 in eight innings to Richland before falling 3-2 to Walla Walla in the semifinals. Team Rudi then fell 16-10 to Triple Play of Tacoma in the third-place game. Team Rudi 3, NW Crush 0Matt Gorrell and Will Barr combined to throw a three-hitter in the opener. Gorrell and Ty Everson each had two hits, and Trevor Freese and Sam Averett one each. Gorrell, Averett and Freese each drove in a run. Team Rudi 14, Pasco 1 Justin Durflinger threw a four-hitter, striking out three, in the win. Dillon Blankenship led Team Rudi’s offense with two hits and three RBIs. Derek Blankenship added a double and two RBIs. Coleman Lay had a double and an RBI, Colten Richards a hit and three RBIs, Durflinger a hit and an RBI, and Freese a hit. Team Rudi 14, Cour d’Alene 5 Lay and Dillon Blankenship combined on a six-hitter. Richards had a double, triple and three RBIs. Everson had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Barr had three hits and two RBIs. Gorrell had two hits and an RBI. Averett added a hit and two RBIs. Freese had a hit and an RBI, and Durflinger a hit. Richland 4, Team Rudi 3 Richland broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the eighth inning. Team Rudi had scored twice in the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Freese led the game off with a solo home run. Durflinger and Barr each had two hits, and Gorrell and Richards one each. Everson took the loss throwing a complete-game seven-hitter. Walla Walla 3, Team Rudi 2 Walla Walla scored all three of its runs in the first inning off Barr. Barr then allowed just three hits the rest of the game. Freese and Everson each had two hits. Richards and Dillon Blankenship each added one hit. Triple Play 16, Team Rudi 10 Durflinger, Lay and Dillon Blankenship all pitched with Lay getting the loss. Gorrell had a double and two RBIs, and Barr a triple and an RBI. Everson, Richards and Lay each added a hit and an RBI, and Blankenship a double. Team Rudi (12-4) hosts Burns in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at the Baker Sports Complex. The games were originally scheduled Wednesday. |
