Four advance to 1A state meet

The state qualifiers advanced after placing first or second at the District 4-1A meet at Baker High School, or meeting state qualifying standards.

Powder’s Trenton Dixon advanced by taking second in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 4 inches. He also heads to state in the long jump with a qualifying mark of 20 feet, 6 inches, good enough for third at district.

The Badgers’ Kate Jones advanced to state in two events, winning the 100 hurdles (17.26) and placing second in the 300 hurdles (51.68) at district.

Pine-Eagle’s Blake Huff heads to state as the district champion in the 1,500 (4:34.54).

Huntington’s Tonya Broam placed second in the shot (31 feet, 7 inches) to advance.

The Class 1A state meet will be Friday and Saturday at Western Oregon University in Monmouth.
