Homedale routs Baker softball
By Gerry Steele
What a difference a day makes.
A day after winning a high-scoring nonleague softball game at Nyssa, Baker’s offense went silent in its home-opening doubleheader against Homedale Saturday at the Baker Sports Complex.
Baker saw its season record drop to 1-2 after Homedale hammered the Bulldogs 25-3 and 13-1.
In the first game, Baker couldn’t overcome three Homedale home runs.
Baker scored all of its runs in one inning.
With the bases loaded Dani McCauley plated the Bulldogs’ first run on a sacrifice fly.
The other two runs scored on a single to centerfield by Sierra Koehler.
In Game 2, Baker trailed 6-1 entering the sixth inning. Homedale then added seven more runs, including another homer, to end the game.
McCauley scored Baker’s run in the bottom of the first inning.
She reached base on an error and came around to score later in the inning on another error.
The Bulldogs will continue nonleague action today and Tuesday during a tournament at the Sports Complex.
Today, Baker played Caldwell at 9:45 a.m. and Parma at noon.
Tuesday, the Bulldogs play Weiser at 9:45 a.m. and Payette at noon.
