Imbler, Columbia Christian win 1A titles

Imbler and Columbia Christian took home the championship trophies Saturday evening at the Class 1A state girls and boys basketball tournaments at Baker High School.

Imbler earned its first 1A girls title by defeating Griswold 66-37. Columbia Christian won its first 1A boys crown with a 47-40 victory over Wallowa.


Imbler wins girls title

Imbler lost to Joseph in the championship game a year ago, but had an easy time this season against Griswold.

The Panthers, who won the Class 2A title in 1990,  built a 14-2 lead after one period and increased the margin to 25-10 at halftime.

Stephanie Anthony, Reva West, Sarah Bowers-Ott and Chelsea Poe each scored 10 points for Imbler. Demetria Thompson added nine points, and Kira Poe eight.

Kylee Rogers led Griswold with 16 points.

Knights win boys crown

Columbia Christian took the lead for good, 31-30, with 3:03 left in the third quarter.

Wallowa managed to cut the deficit to one point three more times, the last at 37-36 with 6:46 left in the game.

Braden Mueller led Columbia Christian with 19 points. Michael Hickman added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Tyler Harshfield led Wallowa with 16 points. Ian Parks added 12.
