Imbler, Grizzlies win girls semis

Top-ranked Imbler and Griswold advanced to the championship game of the Class 1A state girls basketball tournament after semifinal wins Friday at Baker High School.

Imbler defeated Mohawk 55-30, and Griswold topped Crane 42-34.


Imbler 55, Mohawk 30

Undefeated Imbler, last year’s runnerup, forged a 14-5 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

Demetria Thompson led the Panthers with 16 points. Chelsea Poe added 11 points and nine rebounds, and Sarah Bowers-Ott 10 points and five assists.

Clancee Lance topped Mohawk with 11 points.

Griswold 42, Crane 34

Griswold went on an 11-2 run in the final three minutes of the third quarter to take the lead for good.

Trailing 20-10, the Grizzlies used two baskets by Meghan Schroeder, a three-pointer by Kylee Rogers, and baskets by Chyanne Hack and Niccy Thompson to build a 30-22 lead at the break.

Crane never got closer than three points after that.

Rogers led Griswold with 16 points. Hack added 10.

Natalie Bentz, Emilee O’Toole and September O’Crowley each tallied seven points for Crane.
