Joe Rudi receives honor

OAKLAND — Baker City’s Joe Rudi was honored, along with several of his old Oakland A’s teammates, on 1970s Turn Back the Clock Night Saturday at the Oakland Coliseum. Rudi, 63, one of the leaders during the A’s run of three consecutive World Series titles from 1972 to 1974, threw out the ceremonial first pitch against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Replicas of his No. 26 jersey were handed out to fans at the game. Rudi, who works at Nelson Real Estate in Baker City, was a .264 hitter with 179 home runs and 810 RBI during his 16-year career. He played for the Kansas City/Oakland A’s from 1967 to 1975, California (1977-80), Boston (1981) and finished his career back with Oakland (1982).Rudi was a three-time all-star selection (1972, 1974, 1975), three-time World Series champion (1972, 1973, 1974), and three-time Gold Glove award winner (1974, 1975, 1976). |
