Baker senior Walker Kaseberg won the Class 4A boys high jump championship Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Kaseberg, the Greater Oregon League champion, jumped 6 feet, 5 inches to claim the crown. He was the only one of a dozen Bulldogs to score points at the 4A meet on the University of Oregon campus. Kaseberg’s 10 points gave Baker 23rd place in the boys standings. Baker didn’t score in the girls meet, finishing tied for 32nd. The next highest placer for the Bulldogs was Haley Adams, 11th in the girls javelin with a toss of 108 feet, 8 inches. Adams did not place in the girls pole vault when she didn’t clear the opening height. Hannah Prince placed 13th in the girls 100 (13.32) and 13th in the 200 (27.21). Melissa Clarke was 12th in the 3,000 (11:42.71) and 13th in the 1,500 (5:14.54). Kaseberg joined Luke Austin, Rowdy LaMiller and B.J. Quintana on Baker’s 4x100 relay that placed 12th (45.55). Whitney Phillips was 12th in the girls 400 (1:02.06), Jake Eastland 12th in the boys pole vault (12 feet), Tori Wirth 13th in the girls shot (30 feet, 2.25 inches), Felicia Schneider 13th in the girls triple jump (30 feet, 9 inches), and Kelcie Cole 14th in the girls 800 (2:39.13).
and Southridge girls win 6A titles One day after his cousin set the state meet record in the shot put, Sam Crouser did him one better. The junior from Gresham set an all-time Oregon high school record in the javelin with a throw of 231 feet, 1 inch during the Class 6A boys track and field championship at Hayward Field on Saturday. At first thought to be a national record, Crouser’s mark apparently fell short of a throw earlier this month in Pennsylvania. On Friday, Barlow sophomore Ryan Crouser was a double winner for the second year in a row, setting a state-meet record in the shot put with a throw of 66-1 1/4, and then a victory in the discus at 183-2. Lake Oswego senior Elijah Greer also was a double-winner with victories in the 800 and 1,500 meters on Saturday. But it was Sheldon which won its first team title, scoring 67 points to sneak past Barlow, which finished with 62. Anthony Yakovich got the only individual wins for the Irish, with victories in the 200 and 400 meters. Also in Class 6A, the Southridge girls scored 66 to edge defending champion Jesuit by 2 1/2 points. Benson senior Kayla Smith was a triple winner, with victories in the long jump, 100 and 200 meters.
win 5A titles Led by another sweep from sprinter Kellie Schueler, the Summit girls cruised to their third straight Class 5A girls title, scoring 81 points to beat second-place Hermiston by 35. Schueler, a junior, won the 100, 200 and 400 meters for the third year in row. Marshfield senior Moriah Roberge set a state meet record in the pole vault with a jump of 12-9 1/2. It was her second straight state title and the sixth for the Roberge family. Her sisters, Celina and Muriel, combined to win three state titles since 2002. The Pirate boys also repeated as the 5A boys winner, despite losing all but one scorer and their head coach from last season’s championship team. Marshfield scored 57 points to hold of Crater, which scored 47.
take 4A crowns In Class 4A, the Sweet Home boys, led by three-time individual champion Dakotah Keys, scored 77 to finished well ahead of Ontario (44). Keys won the long jump, pole vault and 110 hurdles. The Henley girls won their third straight 4A title. The Hornets were led by senior Taylor Wallace, who wrapped up her career with championships in the 1,500, 3,000 and 4x400, giving her 11 for her career. Wallace also became the only individual in the state to ever win four titles in both the 1,500 and 3,000. |
