La Grande outslugs Team Rudi

A week ago Team Rudi defeated La Grande twice by 10-run mercy rule in Junior Legion baseball action. But on Wednesday, La Grande outslugged the Diamondbacks 16-10 in a single 9-inning game at La Grande.

“We didn’t play well,” said Team Rudi coach Dave Richards.

The Baker coach said it didn’t help matters that pitchers Anthony Shankle and Dustin Hull had sore arms and couldn’t pitch.

"We had to use some guys who haven’t thrown that much,” Richards said. “And, we didn’t give them some help in a couple of innings.”

Keifer Mespelt drew the start on the mound and threw well.

“Keifer threw three hitless, scoreless innings. He faced just 10 batters, and did a great job,” Richards said.

Tyler Talbot then threw 2 1/3 innings.

“Tyler struggled a little,” Richards said. “We didn’t help him by committing a couple of errors that drug those innings out.”

Dillon Blankenship then threw the final 2 2/3 innings.

“He did a pretty good job,” Richards said. “But we can’t keep making the mental errors behind our pitchers.”

Blankenship also led Team Rudi hitters by going 3-for-4 with a double. Shankle added a pair of triples and three RBIs, Alex Turner two hits including a double and two RBIs, and Chance Parry a double.

Team Rudi is playing at a tournament in Caldwell this weekend.
