Two local rodeo riders will compete in the National High School Finals Rodeo which runs July 20-26 at Farmington, N.M.

Katie Hamann, a Powder Valley High School freshman, qualified for the annual event by finishing second in barrel racing at the Idaho State Finals Rodeo in June at Pocatello.

Kody Cosby of Baker High School finished third in saddle bronc riding at the Oregon State Finals Rodeo last month in Klamath Falls.

Hamann, along with several riders from Jordan Valley, Crane and Vale, chose to compete in Idaho rather than in Oregon.

Hamann, competing on 17-year-old Tripper, a horse owned by Tom and Fawn Kerns, was eighth after her first-round time of 17.689.

In the second round she set the pace with a 17.415 clocking.

She then posted a time of 17.182 in the short go to claim second place in the state.

Hamann also finished seventh in the second round of pole bending with a 21.423 run.
