BHS SOFTBALL: Baker downs Weiser, 13-5

WEISER — Baker scored in all but one inning Monday on the way to a 13-5 nonleague softball win at Weiser.

Sierra Howerton led the Bulldogs with three hits, including a pair of doubles, and two RBIs. Abi Smith and Kayla Davis each added two hits and two RBIs.

Baker returns to Greater Oregon League action Saturday when the Bulldogs host Mac-Hi in a doubleheader at the Baker Sports Complex beginning at noon.

BHS BASEBALL: Hermiston blows past Bulldogs

HERMISTON — Hermiston defeated Baker 17-4 in a wind-blown nonleague baseball game at Hermiston Wednesday.

“We played in a wind storm; winds of 55 to 60 miles per hour at times,” said Baker coach Dan Blankenship.

“It was one of the more miserable games in my 30 years of coaching.”

Hermiston hammered a trio of Baker pitchers in the five-inning game.

“We were trying to save our pitchers for Saturday’s GOL games with Mac-Hi,” Blankenship said.

“They’re a good ball club, and the wind aided them a lot. We didn’t seem to get those benefits.”

Darren Dolby and Mason Cline each had two hits for Baker. Dan Stinson had a hit and two RBIs.

Baker hosts Mac-Hi in a doubleheader Saturday at noon at the Baker Sports Complex.

BHS BASEBALL: First-inning mistake costly for Bulldogs

Baker made its only big mistake early, but by then it was already too late.

An error with two outs in the top of the first gave Fruitland another chance, and the Grizzlies took advantage with a grand slam that gave them a 6-0 lead they would not relinquish.

Fruitland held on for an 8-4 win in a non-league baseball game Tuesday afternoon at the blustery Baker Sports Complex.
