HALFWAY — With four returning starters, Pine-Eagle’s volleyball
squad is looking to move up and challenge for a top spot in the Old
Oregon League.
“Last year we gained some experience. I’ve got four of my six
starters, and one player who swung from JV to varsity,” said Cindy
Plano, the third-year Pine-Eagle coach.

HALFWAY — More depth and another year of experience has Pine-Eagle football coach Blake Dennis optimistic about the 2009 season.
“This is a group that I think can put something together,” Dennis said the Spartans.
Dennis, who has been the Spartans’ head coach since 1993, welcomed 22 players out this season.

NORTH POWDER — Powder Valley is looking to improve on it fourth-place district volleyball finish from a year ago.
To that end, Powder coach Lasa Baxter is very happy with having 20 players out for her program this fall.

NORTH POWDER — Dan Townsend steps in to replace Skye Flanagan as coach of the Powder Valley High School football team this fall.
Townsend, a 1997 Powder graduate, played four seasons for the
Badgers, and has been an assistant coach for Flanagan the past three
seasons.

Baker High School football daily doubles don’t start until Monday. But, the sounds of pads popping and coaches hollering instructions still permiated the air around Bulldog Memorial Stadium earlier this week.

The East took a 10-0 first-quarter lead, then withstood the 97-degree heat and a West comeback to take a 17-13 victory Saturday in the 57th annual East-West Shrine All-Star Football Game at Bulldog Memorial Stadium.
