Team Rudi splits Legion opener

The Baker Team Rudi Diamondbacks used a 15-run inning Wednesday to earn a split with Gilbert Auto of Pendleton in an American Legion baseball doubleheader at Pendleton.

Baker beats Henley in semis

The third time was the charm for Baker Wednesday in the Class 4A state baseball semifinals.

Baker meets Astoria Saturday

Baker will make school history Saturday when the Bulldogs challenge top-ranked Astoria for the Class 4A state baseball championship.

Baker wins; Astoria next for title

HENLEY— Baker defeated Henley 3-2 in its Class 4A state semifinal baseball game Wednesday to advance to the state title game for the first time in school history.

Baker will play top-ranked Astoria Saturday at Salem-Keizer Stadium. According to the OSAA site the game will start at 10 a.m.

Dekker Smith's sacrifice fly scored Cole Brown with the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth, giving Baker a 3-2 edge.

Brown and Derek Blankenship opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Smith then drove Brown home with a deep fly ball. Baker was still batting in the inning.

Henley had tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth on a Baker error.

Blankenship's solo home run leading off the top of the fourth inning gave Baker a 2-1 lead.

Baker had scored a run in the top of the third inning to tie Henley 1-1 going to the bottom of the inning.

Grant Marcum's two-out double scored Jon Woolard with the tying run. Woolard singled, and Alex Clark reached on an error before Marcum's hit. Clark was tagged out at the plate trying to follow Woolard.

Baker had gone down in order in both the first and second innings. 

Henley picked up its run in the bottom of the first when a batter walked, was called safe at second on a steal attempt, went to third, then scored despite apparently not tagging on a fly ball.

Baker’s magic number is 2.

The Bulldogs need two more wins to claim the Class 4A state baseball chamionship trophy.

Third time the charm for Baker?

When Baker takes the field at Henley Tuesday it will be the third time in school history the Bulldogs have reached the state baseball semifinals.

Baker defeats Newport

Baker used one big inning Friday to continue its historic baseball season with a 5-4 win over defending Class 4A champion Newport in the state baseball quarterfinals.

Baker readies for Newport

A year ago Newport won the Class 4A state baseball championship. Friday, Baker hopes to make the Cubs just another notch on the Bulldogs’ list of victories.

Baker and Newport will square off in a 4A quarterfinal contest Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Baker Sports Complex. Baker (23-3) enters the game coming off a 12-2 win over Douglas. Newport (16-7-1) advances after edging Scappoose 13-9.

Four home runs lift Bulldogs

It was just another day at the office for the Baker baseball team Tuesday in the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs.
