Petry qualifies for state

Petry qualified for state after advancing to the Special District 5 girls singles semifinals Thursday at the Ash Grove courts. The top four players qualify for state.

Petry, who drew a first round bye, won her first match in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals.

She followed that with a straight set win in the quarters to advance to the semifinals.

Petry lost just two games in her first two matches.

“Courtney is playing real well right now,” said Baker coach George Keister.

Three other Baker singles players won one match each Thursday, as did all four Baker doubles teams.

Helen Galiszewski, Robbie Langrell and Kate Sizer won one singles match each.

Hazel Hansen and Emily Miller, Lily Bass and Ellen Jampolsky, Kim Countryman and Julie Tipton, and Anna Clarke and Miranda McBroom all won one doubles match apiece.

Girls and boys play continued today at 9 a.m. at the Ash Grove courts.

The Baker boys competed in La Grande Thursday. Results were not available for this story.
