The Eastern Oregon Pepsi AAA American Legion baseball team won three of four games against Pendleton and Vallivue, Idaho, last week. Derek Blankenship, Cole Brown, Trace Richardson and Grant Marcum of Baker City are members of the Phillies. Thursday, the Phillies split two games at Pendleton, winning the opener 12-4 but losing Game 2, 12-7. Brown earned the complete-game win on the mound in the opener. Marcum had a home run and Blankenship a double. In the second game, Marcum slugged his second homer of the day. Brown added a double. Blankenship pitched the seventh inning, striking out two. Sweep at VallivueThe Phillies swept Vallivue 7-3 and 9-0 Sunday at Boise. In the first game, Blankenship singled in the third inning and scored on a Brown sacrifice fly to lift the Phillies up 2-1. In the fifth, Blankenship singled and stole second and third base. He scored on a bunt hit by Marcum. In the sixth, Blankenship walked to load the bases. He later scored on a Brown single to help the Phillies take a 5-1 lead. Blankenship completed the scoring in the seventh with an RBI single. In the second game, the Phillies scored five runs in the third inning. Brown had a two-run single in the frame. Blankenship, Marcum and Richardson each added a single. Marcum added a single in the fifth and Blankenship a single in the sixth. In the seventh, Marcum walked and an out later Richardson slugged a three-run homer. Blankenship then walked. Blankenship pitched the seventh inning, striking out three of the four batters he faced. |
