Pine-Eagle girls top Panthers

Pine-Eagle used a swarming defense and balanced scoring to hand Prairie City a 58-37 defeat Saturday in a non-league girls basketball game at Prairie City.

“They had beat us in summer league so I was a little bit worried before the game,” said Pine-Eagle coach Roger Gulick.

“I asked the girls what they wanted to play and they said full-court man. They got after it pretty good. Then we played zone the entire second half.”

Ce’Aira Marks led four Spartans in double figures with 15 points. McKenzie Bell dded 11, Breanna Thatcher 10 and Alicia Marlow 10.

“It was nice to see that kind of balanced scoring,” Gulick said. “I think we’re beginning to evolve a little bit.”

Pine-Eagle opens Old Oregon League play Friday and Saturday by hosting Powder Valley and Joseph.

“I told the girls we really need to come out of the weekend 2-0,” Gulick said.
