Pine-Eagle lost 5-3 and 25-1 to Enterprise/Joseph Friday. The Spartans lost 10-0 and 14-2 to defending Class 2A champion Union Saturday. Enterprise sweeps Pine-Eagle played its best game of the season in the first game with Enterprise. Liz Hyde pitched the entire game issuing just two walks. “She kept us in the game giving us a chance to win,” said Pine-Eagle coach Joe Sciarrino. “Great effort. Back and forth game. We hit the ball well. Played good defense. We had their No. 1 pitcher Andrea Schaefer on the ropes. But she regrouped and shut the door getting us out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh.” Chelsie Gulick led the Spartans with two hits and two RBIs. Hyde added two hits, Jackson, Holmstead, Marlow, Thissell, and Lawrence one each. “It basically came done to we made two more mistakes than they did,” Sciarrino said. Pine-Eagle couldn’t sustain its pitching in Game 2. “It got away early,” Sciarrino said. The Spartans scored on an Elicia Jackson triple then a passed ball.
With just nine players available the Spartans played Hillary Thissell at first base due to her ankle injury and she played a solid two games, Sciarrino said. “We had to switch our defense around playing kids at new positions. Generally it went OK. Union’s pitcher Jesse Reynolds was just too much.” Koski, Marlow, and Holmstead each had one hit. Game 2 was the same story. Jackson and Gulick each had one hit, Jackson an RBI. |
