Powder Valley, Wallowa boys win Friday semifinals

Powder Valley and Wallowa advanced to the District 7-1A boys basketball
championship game after claiming semifinal wins Friday at Baker High
School.
Powder Valley, seeded No. 2, defeated Cove 69-59 to advance. Wallowa, the top seed, stopped Imbler 68-56. Powder Valley takes lead early Powder Valley used a 10-0 run late in the first quarter to break a 12-12 tie and never trailed after that. The 10-0 run, five each by Trenton Dixon and Levi Allen, lifted the Badgers to a 22-12 lead. Powder led 22-14 at the break. Both teams then tallied 17 points in the second period leaving Powder Valley ahead 39-31 at halftime. In the third quarter, the teams again scored the same number of points — 10 — to leave the Badgers ahead 49-41 entering the fourth quarter. Cove managed to cut the deficit to five points, 56-51, midway through the final eight minutes. But the Leopards, who took Powder to overtime twice during the regular season, could get no closer. Dixon led Powder Valley with 28 points and a dozen rebounds. Allen added 13 points.Jered Witty topped Cove with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Jordan Brown added 15 points.

Wallowa pulls away late Leading just 42-41 after three quarters, Wallowa outscored Imbler 26-15 in the fourth quarter to pull away. With the score knotted at 46-46 with 6:17 left in the game, Wallowa went on an 8-0 run to pull away. Ronald Gladden scored four points, and Dusty McDaniel and Jake Johnson two each to build the Cougars lead to 54-46 with 4:45 left. Imbler could get no closer than five points after that. Imbler led 13-12 after one period behind six points from Zach Phillips and five from Bryan Mills. Wallowa then scored the first nine points of the second quarter — four by Gladden — to take a 21-13 lead. The Cougars led 27-24 at halftime. Imbler then cut the deficit to 42-41 entering the fourth period. Gladden led Wallowa with 20 points. Johnson added 18, and McDaniel 13. Mark Jamerson grabbed 14 rebounds. Mills led Imbler with 23 points. Phillips added 10.
