Powder Valley, Wallowa win boys semis

Powder Valley and Wallowa took care of business Friday, winning the semi-final matchups at the District 7-1A boys basketball tournament at Baker High School.

Power Valley built a big early lead then held off Cove for a 64-61 win. Wallowa took a lead early and went on to top Imbler 58-49.


Powder Valley 64, Cove 61

Powder Valley built leads as big as 23 points in the first half, then had to hold on.

Trenton Dixon scored 16 first-half points as the Badgers forged a 38-22 halftime lead.

Then Cove rode 11 points each by Austin Woodward and Crayson McBride in the second half to come back.

Powder Valley still led 60-45 with 3:41 left in the game.

Cove then scored the next 11 points, including five by Woodward and four by McBride, to cut the led to 60-56 with 2:20 left in the game.

A Dixon basket ended Cove’s string with 2:09 left.

Cove eventually got within 63-61 with 3 seconds left, but had to foul.

Powder’s Peter Colton made the second of two free throws with 1 seconds left and Cove couldn’t get another shot off.

Dixon led Powder Valley with 29 points and 16 rebounds. Colton added 14 points.

Woodward led Cove with 27 points and 11 boards. McBride added 13 points.

Wallowa 58, Imbler 49

Wallowa spotted Imbler a 1-point first-quarter lead then led the rest of the way.

Wallowa built a 17-7 lead after one quarter, but led just 24-20 at halftime.

Ronald Gladden led three Cougars in double figures with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Wesley Conrad added 15 points, and Ian Parks 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Zach Phillips led Imbler with 17 points. Wesley McDaniels added 16 points.
