Powder Valley and Wallowa split two games during the Old Oregon League boys basketball regular season. That left Saturday’s District 7 championship game up for grabs at Baker High School.

Powder Valley, the regular-season Old Oregon champion, used a 6-point spurt midway through the third quarter to pull ahead and went on to a 49-39 victory over the Cougars.

Leading just 32-28, the Badgers scored six unanswered points when Justin Allen connected from three-point range, Jordan Pratt scored on a rebound, and Allen added a free throw to increase the margin to 38-28 with 4:52 left in the quarter.

Pratt added another basket and Allen another three-pointer to help Powder Valley take a 43-32 edge into the final eight minutes.

Trenton Dixon scored eight of his 19 points in the first quarter as Powder Valley forged a 15-11 cushion.

Wallowa then battled back behind Tyler Harshfield’s seven points during a 9-0 run that gave the Cougars a 20-15 advantage with 6:18 left in the first half.

Then it was Powder Valley’s turn again.

The Badgers rolled off a 13-2 string, including nine points by Dixon, to build a 28-22 lead late in the quarter.

Powder led 30-24 at halftime.

Dixon led Powder Valley with 19 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Allen added 18 points, three steals and two assists. Pratt chipped in 18 rebounds, eight points and five blocked shots.

Harshfield led Wallowa with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Wallowa hosts Portland Lutheran Tuesday in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs.

Powder Valley will host the winner of Tuesday’s Rogue Valley Adventist-Nixyaawii contest Friday at North Powder.
