Powder Valley boys sweep

Powder Valley locked up second place in the Old Oregon League boys basketball standings last weekend by sweeping Joseph and Pine-Eagle.

The Badgers topped Joseph 69-45 Friday then defeated Pine-Eagle 92-46 Saturday.

Pine-Eagle also lost 73-34 at Imbler Friday.


Powder rolls past Spartans

Powder Valley broke open a close game against Pine-Eagle by outscoring the Spartans 55-20 in the second and third quarters.

“We needed a game like this,” said Powder coach Kyle Dixon. “We needed to get out and run.”

Pine-Eagle rode the scoring of Jake Traw and Justice Walker to a 16-16 deadlock after one period. The Spartan duo combined for nine points in the quarter.

Powder Valley then took command by scoring nine straight points early in the second period — five by Levi Allen — to take a 25-20 advantage.

Trenton Dixon led Powder Valley with 34 points.

Walker topped Pine-Eagle with 11 points. Traw added 10.

Powder stops Joseph

Dixon and Bryson Kandle combined for 15 first-quarter points to lead the Badgers past Joseph.

Powder Valley led 21-9 after one quarter and never looked back.

Dixon finished with 25 points. Peter Colton added 10.

Imbler jumped out to a 22-4 lead after one period and cruised past Pine-Eagle.

Walker led Pine-Eagle with 17 points. Traw added 10.
