Powder Valley boys top Pine-Eagle

Powder Valley cruised into Saturday’s District 7-1A boys basketball championship game after storming past Pine-Eagle 91-26 in the semifinals Friday at Baker High School.

The Badgers, the Old Oregon League regular-season champion, left little doubt as to  the outcome by scoring the first eight points of the game.

Powder Valley, who defeated the Spartans twice during the regular season, led 23-8 after one quarter.

The onslaught continued in the second period which ended with Powder Valley maintaining a 42-16 halftime edge.

 Powder Valley outrebounded the Spartans 27-13 in the first half, including 15 offensive rebounds. Pine-Eagle had one offensive board in the half.

Quin Stephens led the way with seven rebounds, six on the offensive end.

Five different Badgers scored at least seven points in the first half.

Powder had nine steals and forced 19 Pine-Eagle turnovers.

As if there was any doubt at that point, the Badgers then opened the second half on an 11-0 run.

Eleven players played for Powder Valley, and only starter Chace Dixon failed to score.

Logan Allen was 10-of-11 from the field to lead Powder with 21 points.

Jason Benites added 16 points, Stephens 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Noe Benites 10 points.

Jon Thorn led Pine-Eagle with six points.

Powder Valley outrebounded the Spartans 51-23, including 26 offenisve boards. The Badgers forced 29 Pine-Eagle turnovers.
