Powder boys sweep pair

Powder Valley opened defense of its Old Oregon League boys basketball title with a pair of wins last weekend.

The Badgers easily defeated Pine-Eagle 67-36 Friday at Halfway. Powder then had to go into overtime to edge Cove 65-57 at Cove Saturday.

Against Pine-Eagle, the Badgers built a 22-6 first quarter lead and never looked back.

Trenton Dixon led Powder Valley with 19 points. Jake Traw and Justice Walker each tallied 14 for Pine-Eagle.

Against Cove, the Badgers rallied from a 10-point third-quarter deficit to tie the game at 54-54 in regulation. Peter Colton’s three-point basket with two seconds left in the fourth quarter sent the game into overtime.

Powder Valley then outscored the Leopards 11-3 in the extra period.

Dixon again led Powder with 21 points. Colton added 13.
