NORTH POWDER — Powder Valley took another step toward defending its Class 1A boys basketball championship Wednesday, defeating Spray 81-63 in the first round of this year’s playoffs. “We played good team ball,” said Powder Valley coach Kyle Dixon. “It was probably one of our better games in the past couple weeks.” Powder led 22-16 after one period, and 41-29 at halftime. “We went up by 22 points at one time, then back to 16,” Dixon said. “Then we kind of backed off.” Trenton Dixon led four Badgers in double figures with 28 points. Bryson Kandle and Peter Colton each added 16, and Gavin Kandle 10. Powder Valley travels to Butte Falls Saturday for a second-round game. The winner of Saturday’s game advances to the Class 1A tournament March 3-6 at Baker High School.
