Powder girls start 1-2

NORTH POWDER — Powder Valley opened its girls basketball season last weekend by playing three games in three days.

Thursday, the Badgers edged Harper 41-39 at North Powder. Then Friday and Saturday, Powder competed in the Union tournament. Friday, the Badgers lost 35-29 to Cove. Saturday, Union topped the Badgers 68-41.

Late-game heroics

Powder Valley trailed most of the game against Harper before rallying in the fourth quarter.

“It went down to the wire,” said Powder coach Brent Gyllenberg. “We took the lead in the final 14 seconds.”

Kelsie White led Powder with 11 points.

“Kelsie had a great game,” Gyllenberg said. “And Kate Jones made some clutch shots in the fourth quarter.

“The biggest key though was that we took care of the ball. We didn’t have a lot of turnovers.”
