Siletz, The Triad win boys semis

Siltez Valley and The Triad came away with semifinal wins Friday at the Class 1A state boys basketball tournament at Baker High School.

Siletz Valley topped previously-unbeaten McKenzie 50-42. The Triad rallied to stop Horizon Christian 61-58.


Siletz Valley 50, McKenzie 42

The fourth time proved to be the charm for Siletz Valley against Mountain West foe, McKenzie.

Siletz Valley took the lead for good with 2 minutes left in the first half, and never looked back.

Erick Rice led the Warriors with 14 points. Jake Carr added 13 points.

Will Totten had 15 points to lead McKenzie. Jordan Wiley added a dozen rebounds.

The Triad 61, Horizon Christian 58

The Triad rallied from 14 points down in the second half to pull out the win.

Trailing 58-56 with 1 minute left in the game, Nathan Nilsson scored to tie the game at 58-all.

Then, after an Horizon Christian turnover, Garrett Powless hit a three-point basket as time expired to give The Triad the victory.

The Triad trailed 50-38 entering the fourth quarter, then outscored Horizon Christian 23-8 in the period.

Powless led The Triad with 21 points. Nilsson and Jake Ovgard each added 12.

Max Totaro led Horizon Christian with 15 points. Jordan Andersen and Sam Anthony each added 13, and Matt Totaro 12.
