Spartan girls split

Pine-Eagle maintained its hold on second place in the Old Oregon League girls basketball race after splitting a pair of league games during the weekend.

The Spartans dropped a 40-13 contest to Imbler Friday before rebounding to defeat Powder Valley 65-42 Saturday.

Powder Valley lost to Joseph 54-42 on Friday.


Spartans romp past Powder

Pine-Eagle used its quickness and height to defeat Powder Valley for the fourth time this season.

“Our size didn’t hurt us,” said Pine-Eagle coach Roger Gulick. “I was pleased with the weekend.”

Post Kaylee Holmstead led three Spartans in double figures with 19 points. Chelsie Gulick added 13, and Ce’Aira Marks 12.

Kate Jones led Powder Valley with 13 points.

Spartans fall to top-ranked Imbler

Pine-Eagle couldn’t get its shots to fall, and had too many first-quarter turnovers against Imbler.

“If we could have skipped the turnovers in the first quarter and made some shots it might have been different,” Gulick said.

Marks led the Spartans with nine points.

Joseph stops Powder Valley

Joseph pulled away in the second half to defeat Powder Valley Friday.

The Eagles led 21-18 at halftime, then outscored Powder 33-24 in the second half.

Katie Hamann and Kelsie White each scored eight points to lead the Badgers.
