Spartan girls win semifinal

Pine-Eagle used a 13-1 run in the final five minutes of the third quarter to pull away from Powder Valley Friday in the semifinal round of the District 7-1A girls basketball tournament.

Trailing 21-18, the Spartans rolled to a 31-22 advantage entering the fourth quarter. The Spartans went on to win 39-28.

Celisa Digges led Pine-Eagle with six points in the run.

Hailey Davis added four, and Marrianna Akers and Bri Thatcher two each.

Powder Valley rode the six points of Alexandra Colton to a 9-6 lead after one period.

Pine-Eagle then outscored the Badgers 10-4 in the second quarter to take a 16-13 edge at halftime.

Eight points — including two three-pointers — by Ali Abrego gave Powder Valley a 21-18 lead with 5:05 left in the third quarter.

Powder Valley could get no closer than seven points in the final quarter.

Bri Thatcher led Pine-Eagle with 10 points.

Abrego topped Powder with 13 points. Colton added 10.

   Abrego 5 1-4 13, Loennig, Hampton 0 0-2 0, Colton 5 0-0 10, Allen 2 0-0 4, Trindle 0 1-2 1, Martin, Feik, Jimenez. Totals 12 2-8 28.
