Team Rudi tops Pendleton, Badgers

Team Rudi continued its hot streak Saturday by sweeping Pendleton and Winnemucca at the Team Rudi Wood Bat tournament at the Baker Sports Complex.

The Diamondbacks used two RBIs each from Derek Blankenship and Matt Gorrell to defeat Pendleton 7-3 Saturday afternoon.

Team Rudi then used four RBIs from Trace Richardson, and three from Jesse Brown to stop previously-undefeated Winnemucca 11-1 under the lights.

Blankenship’s RBI single scored Ty Everson to give Baker a 1-0 first-inning lead against Pendleton.

Gorrell’s two-run double, and an RBI single by Dekker Smith plated three runs in the third inning.

A two-run double by Stephen Talbot and a run-scoring double by Blankenship added three more runs in the fourth.

Smith pitched the first five innings for the Diamondbacks. Then, when three straight hits loaded the bases with none out in the sixth, Everson came on in relief.

Everson got the first batter he faced to ground into a double play. The next batter then grounded out to end the inning.
