WRESTLING: Bulldogs 10th at Muilenburg

By GERRY STEELE

Of the Baker City Herald

Baker had three individual placers and took 10th in the team standings Saturday at the annual Muilenburg Memorial wrestling tournament at La Grande High School.

Jon Henry finished 4-1 to place third at 171 pounds. Grant Marcum was 3-2 to place sixth at 119. Nick Garrick also finished 4-1 to win the consolation championship at 275.

"We were impressed with the kids," said Baker coach Dee Gorrell. "We have a young team. A lot of the kids went much farther then we might have expected. They continue to improve by leaps and bounds."

Gorrell said he was especially impressed since at least a half dozen of the teams at the tournament were either state champions or runners up last season.

"Overall, teamwise I was happy to be in the top 10," Gorrell said.

Estacada won the tournament. Union/Powder Valley won the small school title.

The Baker JV compete at a tournament in Pendleton today. Baker hosts its own dual tournament Saturday.
