Wallowa, Columbia Christian win semis

Wallowa and Columbia Christian won semifinal contests at the Class 1A state boys basketball tournament Friday at Baker High School.

Wallowa topped Damascus Christian 53-41, and Columbia Christian defeated Mohawk 44-39.


Wallowa 53, Damascus Christian 41

Top-ranked Wallowa led from start to finish to advance to the championship game.

The Cougars built a 13-5 lead after one quarter, and led 26-13 at halftime.

Ian Parks led Wallowa with 21 points and eight rebounds. Jake Johnson added 12 points, and Tyler Harshfield eight boards.

Michael Gunderson led Damascus Christian with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Columbia Christian 44, Mohawk 39

Columbia Christian rallied in the final five minutes to deny Mohawk its fourth straight trip to to the title game.

Dillon Tuyls hit a three-pointer with 4:53 left to put Mohawk ahead 37-35. Derek Poole then tied the game with a basket, and Johnny Stefan put Columbia Christian ahead with another basket with 1:39 left in the game.

Mohawk’s Cord Wilkins tied the game at 39-39 with 1:18 left, but Poole answered with a basket and a three-pointer in the final minute to send Columbia Christian to the win.

Poole led Columbia Christian with 19 points. Braden Mueller added 13.

Tanner Hanes topped Mohawk with 14 points. Wilkins added 11.
