A 24-hour Maverik gas station and convenience store opened Nov. 2 at 1520 Campbell St.

The Baker City store is the company's first Oregon location.

Among items the company highlights: their own Bodacious Bean Mountain

Coffee line and the Bonfire line of fresh-baked pastries, breakfast

sandwiches and deli items.

"That's what makes us different," said Ernie Harker, Maverik's

executive director of marketing. "It allows us a lot of control over

quality."

They also offer a sandwich with Bahama Mama sausages.

Outside the 4,300 square foot minimarket will be eight fuel-pumping stations with 16 hoses. Propane also will be for sale.

Along with food, beverages and other goods available in minimarket will

be such items as oil, air filters, fuel additives, jumper cables and

other auto-related items.

Harker said their fuel prices are competitive and that the prices go down a little more with membership cards, which are free.

This is the first Maverik in Oregon though there are locations in

western Idaho, including Weiser, Payette and Fruitland, as well as in

Washington.

The Baker City location will employ fewer than a dozen employees,

Harker said. Three or four workers are expected to be on duty routinely.

"We're very excited that Maverik has finally reached Oregon," said Brad

Call, Maverik's vice president. "We couldn't have picked a better place

in Oregon to bring 'Adventure's First Stop' than Baker City."

Utah-based Maverik operates about 220 stores across the west and is privately owned. None of the locations are franchises.
