Baker City Police are investigating a rash of vandalism that took place between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Police Chief Wyn Lohner said the vandals used "large, heavy objects of opportunity" to break windows on vehicles parked in at least 12 locations in the community. He declined to release other details about the crimes as the investigation continues.

He said damage to vehicle windows ranged from the area of the Courthouse to Baker High School and included vehicles in the 3000 block of Resort Street, the 3100 block of College Street, the 3200 block of River Park Drive, the 3200 block of Grandview Drive, the 2900 block of Broadway Street and the 2300 block of 11th Street.

"We're not very pleased," Lohner said. "This is very unusual for our community for people to do that kind of a rash of vandalism."

Lohner said night shift officers have some leads in the investigation, but would appreciate the community's help in identifying the vandals.

Anyone who might have seen suspicious activity between the hours of 11 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday is asked to call police at 541-523-3644.
