Wild color for wild birds

Eddie Denten shows his imagination when Baker Headstart children are given free rein with paint and brush to create birdhouses for veterans in Baker City during a project Friday sponsored by Veteran Advocates of Oregon and Idaho. Bluebirds, warblers and sparrows will have colorful houses to raise their broods this spring. Doug Dean of VAOI said the boxes, 21 in all of various sizes, were built by veterans for veterans. The birdhouses will go to those vets who can have them at assisted living facilities, rest homes or their own homes, he said.
