To the editor:

Wow! Baker has done it again. May 1 was the kickoff for the first Mayce Day-Drink Pink fundraiser. For those of you who are unaware, pink (hot pink) was Mayce Collard's favorite collar. If you ordered a drink from the Baker High School Learning Center's Bulldog Blender you were able to enjoy it with a hot pink straw (courtesy of Sorbenots). Our crew donated all money raised to the J. Mayce Memorial Scholarship.

More than 350 drinks were made and more than $1,200 raised, between drinks, cookies and of course generous patrons who gave a little extra. Because of this awesome community there will be another student who will receive help to reach their dreams with this scholarship.

Our hope for whomever receives this scholarship next year in Mayce's graduating class of 2009 will take what Mayce has started and pass it on for years to come.

Mayce Collard was extra special to our Learning Center students, someone who always had a smile on her face and had a way of making the students feel comfortable by looking at their abilities, not their disabilities. For this, we thank Mayce Collard!

For more information on how you can donate or support the J. Mayce Scholarship, you can call Mary Collard at 523-4125.

Thank you again and we look forward to your continued support.
