To the editor:
Noxious weeds are arguably the most significant threat to our precious natural resources in Northeastern Oregon. With the outstanding partnerships of private landowners, federal, state and local agencies dedicated to battling these worrisome invaders in our corner of the world, we are making significant progress toward control efforts.
One would only need to visit neighboring Idaho areas to experience firsthand what these plants are capable of if left to their own devices. Rush skeletonweed and yellow starthistle have taken over vast acreages on the east side of the Snake River, effectively rendering much of the land useless to wildlife and livestock, and destroying native plant communities.
The funds acquired through the weed levy are critical in leveraging the grant dollars that enable the Baker County weed program to be as effective as it is. I support the weed levy, and I urge you to join me in voting yes on this important issue
