Herald helped me find an old friend

To the editor:

I just wanted to thank you for having the Herald online. I am a native Oregonian, transplanted to South Carolina, and I love reading the local papers from Baker City, Prineville, Wallowa County, and La Grande online. I grew up in all of these places.

In fifth grade, I lived out on Brown Lane, off Pocahontas Road, and my best friend lived a mile or two away. Our friendship was awesome, and because my family moved often due to my dad's job, it was also interrupted. We had all of fifth grade, part of our freshman year, and part of our junior year together, then I graduated from high school over at Cove. I hadn't talked with this friend since our junior year.

I was scanning the obits one day and came across my friend's dad's obit, and her name was listed in the survivor list, as well as where she lived. Taking a chance, I called information, got her number, and gave her a call. She was as excited as I was to talk to each other again. Without the Herald being online, I doubt I ever would have found her again, so thank you so much for helping in an offhand way to reunite me with a childhood best friend.
