Thanks to all who make Fair happen

To the editor:

It's Baker County Fair time and I would like to take a minute and say, "thank you" to the Baker County 4-H Extension Staff, Fair Manager, staff, and Fair Board members. The countless hours they spend supporting 4-H and FFA youth, parents and leaders is very much appreciated.

Fair Manager Colleen Taylor does an exceptional job of managing and

promoting the fairgrounds as does Angie Turner, assistant fair manager.

Colleen's crew, Larry Albert and Delo Simmons' efforts are greatly

appreciated - special thanks to you for the great job you do in

preparing the arena.

4-H Extension Agent Janice Cowan, through her oversight and

participation in a whole host of 4-H activities, truly makes a positive

difference in the lives of 4-H kids. Office Manager Jayne Keller and

assistant Angela Robb cheerfully respond to all kinds of different

questions and requests and keep 4-H leaders organized and timely.

4-H and FFA programs are very worthwhile programs. We are very

fortunate to have strong programs here in Baker County and without the

support and guidance of these dedicated individuals, it would be

difficult - if not impossible - for them to continue. Thank you!

See you at the fair!

Many people made Shrine game work

To the editor:

We would like to thank all the people that made the East-West Shrine

All-Star Football Game and weekend a huge success. Special thanks go to

the Baker Quarterback Club, Trail Tenders and the Chamber for the

players barbecue on Thursday.

Also, the Randy Carpenter Foundation for sponsoring the Texas hold 'em

tournament, and Jody Stewart at Quail Ridge Golf Course for the help on

the Shrine golf tournament.

The parade was wonderfully coordinated by Ginger and Kerry Savage. As

always, Baker High School had the field in top shape and it showcased

our premier facilities for all to see.

A great big thank you to the Baker County Cattlemen and Cattlewomen for

the breakfast and the steer donation, as it was auctioned off for over

$16,000 with all proceeds going to the Shrine hospital. We would also

like to thanks the Knights of Columbus, ticket-takers, announcer,

statisticians, officials and all the other volunteers who gave of their

time and expertise to make this weekend a rousing success.

Thank you to Timothy Bishop, who coordinated the marketing and worked

hard to help Root Sports get the TV ads in place. Kudos to the Haines

Stampede for their team roping event which netted $2,200 for the Shrine

Hospital. Above all, we would like to thank the sponsors and fans for

your continued support. The Shriners thank you and the kids thank you.

We are lucky to live in the most beautiful town in America and we can

be proud as an entire community.
