Letters to the Editor for Oct. 10, 2011

By Jayson Jacoby / The Baker City Herald

Global warming not in real disputeTo the editor:In a recent letter to the editor, Pete Sundin, who poo poos global warming theory, says he's looking forward to a warmer climate such as Europe experienced in the Medieval Ages. He claims there are "thousands of scientists" who believe as he does. That's a lot of nay-saying scientists. But Sundin omitted pointing out that they make up just 2 percent of the scientific community.I prefer to listen to the 98 percent of scientists who believe that human activity, starting with the Industrial Revolution, has polluted the atmosphere with an ever higher concentration of heat-trapping carbon dioxide such that, if not addressed immediately, threatens human existence on Earth. Medieval thinking just doesn't cut it.Gary DielmanBaker City
