Many Forest Service campgrounds in Northeastern Oregon and one of the region's two scenic byways will be open during Memorial Day weekend.
The Wallowa Mountain Loop, Forest Road 39, will be open between Pine Creek and Joseph, said Angelica Johnson, spokeswoman for the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest.
But the Elkhorn Drive byway, the 106-mile loop that starts and ends in Baker City, is still blocked by snowdrifts near Anthony Lakes, Johnson said.
The Elkhorn Drive is open to Granite and to the North Fork John Day River, and the Blue Mountain Byway to Ukiah is open as well.
The following campgrounds will be open during the holiday weekend (more information is available by calling 523-1205, 523-4476, or on the Internet at www.fs.fed.us/r6/w-w.
