Eric Schubert, a 26-year-old cyclist who is planning an 8,000 mile ride beginning in 2007, has decided to settle in Baker City for a year to begin writing his cross country touring guidebook andquot;View from the Saddle.andquot;

Schubert spent some time in Historic Baker City earlier this month and was pleased with the overall experience. andquot;The surrounding roadways were perfect for cycling, the people of Baker City were very friendly, there was a plethora of dining options, the cost of living is remarkably low, and the Trans America Trail runs right through the heart of the cityandquot; said Schubert.

The upcoming guidebook will be the first of its kind for the cycling industry. Eric Schubert has written a handful of online guides for students looking to travel through Europe on a shoestring budget and now plans to bring that mentality to the cycling realm. andquot;I think that with the poor exchange rate and cost of travel on the rise students are starting to look for a better alternative. This is why we're starting to see a surge in younger cross country cyclists and I see this as a perfect opportunity to jump in and raise awareness for cyclingandquot; said Schubert. He added that andquot;now is the time to prove to the market that you do not have to spend an arm and a leg to cross the country on a bikeandquot;.

Schubert has built a team of five experienced cross country cyclists who will be contributing to the project.

Apart from the book project, Schubert brings with him a wealth of online experience. He maintains more than 40 websites and has already launched a Baker City based cycling website, . The website will eventually offer any and all information a cross country cyclist traveling through Baker City could possibly need. andquot;I fell in love with Baker City from the moment I first passed through and I want to do what I can to help inform others of this northwestern treasureandquot;, said Schubert.

Schubert has locked down a rental in downtown Baker City and will be moving in on September 1st, 2006.
