Winter means snow in Baker County, and right now the most white stuff is just where it's needed at Ski Anthony Lakes.

The ski resort is now open for the holiday break, and will operate daily until Jan. 1, with the exception of Christmas Day. Every Thursday features half-price lift tickets.

Snow and weather conditions are updated each morning on a telephone message at 856-3277, and online at the Web site

Visit from Santa

Santa will hit the slopes on Christmas Eve from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Youngsters are encouraged to visit with him and share their holiday wishes. His visit is sponsored by Charley's Ice Cream Parlor in Baker City, and Santa will be handing out coupons good for one regular ice cream cone.

At 1:30 p.m., join Santa inside the lodge to decorate some Christmas cookies.

Into January

Jan. 6 is Winter Trails Day and everyone can try cross country skiing and snowshoeing for free. Rentals are available from 1-4 p.m., and are limited, so call ahead your reservation.

The first snowmobile drag race is Jan. 6. To register, call 541-910-3898.
