Baker boys basketball teams rallies in second half for win

Baker rallied in the second half to beat Grant Union 53-41 in a non-league boys basketball game Tuesday at John Day.

Baker trailed 21-19 at halftime, then outscored the Prospectors 34-20 after halftime.

andquot;We came out slow in the first half, and couldn't hit our outside shots,andquot; said Baker coach Craig Woods. andquot;Grant Union packed their defense in and made us shoot outside.andquot;

Woods said Grant Union played an aggressive defense, but Baker responded in the late going.

andquot;The kids played well down the stretch,andquot; he said. andquot;We might have been overlooking these guys with Seaside coming up.andquot;

Baker travels to the Seaside tournament Thursday through Saturday. The Bulldogs open play Thursday with a 5:15 p.m. game against Astoria. Grant Johnson led the Bulldogs against Grant Union with 20 points.
