NYSSA The Class 3A sixth-ranked Baker Bulldogs took a breather from the Greater Oregon League baseball wars Tuesday and walloped Nyssa 8-2 in a non-league road game.
Baker got off to a quick start, scoring two runs on a Brian Baker home run in the top of the first inning.
The Bulldogs increased their lead to 5-0 with two runs in the third and one in the fifth, all scoring on passed balls.
Pat Taylor slugged Bakers second homer of the afternoon, a solo shot, to increase the Bulldogs lead to 6-0 in the sixth.
Baker finished off its scoring with two more runs in the seventh, on a Baker RBI double and a run-scoring single by Luke Palmer.
Nyssa scored both of its runs off reliever Steve Valentine in the seventh. Baker starter Bjorn Boyer threw shutout ball in his three innings of work. Valentine also put zeros on the scoreboard until the seventh.
Baker finished the game 3 for 3 at the plate. Palmer and Taylor each added two hits.
The Bulldogs will be busy the rest of the week, with three games. Baker travels to La Grande Friday for a GOL doubleheader, then visits Fruitland, Idaho, Saturday for another non-league contest.
