Baker's 9-10-year-old Little League all-star team split its first two games at the district tournament, which continues today at Wade Williams Elks Memorial Park in Baker City.

Baker lost its opening game 11-4 to La Grande on Saturday evening.

Baker then beat Wallowa Valley 10-8 on Sunday evening.

The Baker all-stars will play Pendleton this evening at 6 p.m.

In the opener, La Grande took a 2-0 lead and Baker never could gain any momentum, Baker Coach Jake Pearce said.

andquot; We were just battling back the whole time, andquot; Pearce said.

Porter Cline and Draven Pearce each had two hits for Baker. Rab Bowers added an RBI single, Mason Dowdy had a hit, and Trevor Bennett drove in two runs on a fielder's choice.

Sunday's game was the polar opposite (although polar is perhaps not the most appropriate adjective given the 95-degree weather), as Baker took a 5-0 lead after the first inning.

andquot; The boys played really well, andquot; coach Pearce said.

Pearce had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Bryson Smith, Bowers and Aiden Hayes had two hits each, and Hayes drove in four runs. Dowdy drove in three runs.

Pearce split the pitching duties among seven players to keep their arms fresh.
